{"id":2710,"date":"2024-06-24T20:12:53","date_gmt":"2024-06-24T20:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/?p=2710"},"modified":"2024-06-24T20:14:31","modified_gmt":"2024-06-24T20:14:31","slug":"african-public-square-launch-fresh-take-on-sudan-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/african-public-square-launch-fresh-take-on-sudan-south-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"African Public Square Launch &#8211; Fresh Take on Sudan\/ South Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/APS-2-1024x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2712\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/APS-2-1024x1024.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/APS-2-300x300.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/APS-2-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/APS-2-768x768.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/APS-2-600x600.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/africansforthehorn.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/APS-2.jpeg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>African Leadership Centre (ALC)<\/strong> has established the <strong>African Public Square (APS)<\/strong> as a platform to harness Africa\u2019s intellectual power and inter-generational agency to enable a rethinking of the continent\u2019s  response to its marginalisation on the global stage and the norm reversal that is creeping into the management of the continent\u2019s security and development challenges.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The APS aims to:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Speak back to established agendas in the global landscape that place Africa at a disadvantage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Offer new solutions and proposals for re-energising Africa\u2019s normative and response framework, with possibilities for Africa\u2019s renewal.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Expand the constituency of actors that speak for Africa when the spaces for engaging state and continental action are closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The APS offers a three-part intervention to raise Africa\u2019s position in the world:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A convening platform<\/strong>: to convene new and established voices constituting an intergenerational community of African public intellectuals catalysing the repositioning of Africa in the global order.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>An annual high-level (continental) forum <\/strong>\u2013 an African\/global public debate bringing together prominent African intellectuals along with a variety of interlocutors to frame and propose an alternative framework of engagement on issues of the day shaping Africa\u2019s trajectory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>An inter-generational community of African public intellectuals<\/strong> in co-leadership of special interventions that propose new ideas and forms of collaboration for responding to Africa\u2019s challenges, and reshaping global engagement to raise Africa\u2019s position in the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF THE AFRICAN PUBLIC SQUARE<\/strong><br>The <strong>ALC<\/strong> in collaboration with<strong> Africans for the Horn of Africa (Af4HA) Initiative <\/strong>will officially launch the APS in Nairobi, Kenya, on 27 June 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In its first high-level forum, the APS will convene, along with key partners, an initial intergenerational group of African public intellectuals to open a public debate on a critical question: Can Africa escape the twin tragedy of deinstitutionalisation through \u201cmilitiafication\u201d and externally imposed templates? How can African societies recreate peaceful states that serve the collective and not the few?
